Maternity Benefits
To claim maternity benefits, you need to register at the Labour office and get a medical certificate on the correct form from your doctor.
To register you will need:
: a copy of 13-digit bar-coded identity document
:Copies of your last 6 payslips
:information supplied by your employer (UI19)
:a service certificate from the employer
:proof of your banking details - ASK ME WHY SINCE THEY PAY YOU BY CHEQUE!
:a statement of amount received from employer during maternity leave
:a fully completed registration form.
When you register, you will be given Form UF92. This form must be filled in by your doctor. You then submit this form to the UIF claims officer at the Labour Office.
The claim will be paid by cheque which will be posted to you.
To apply for benefits after the baby is born, you need to complete Form UF95 with help from the doctor who delivered the baby.
Now i need to say thanks for informing us on what we need, but the shocking reality of maternity leave is that companies are not obligated to pay you a cent when you go on maternity leave and the government pays up to 58% max of your monthly salary, now that means, if you earn R2000, and i know people that earn that, you will receive R1160 per month. Now the question is, how does this amount accomodate you AND your baby? That R2000 isnt even enough to accomodate you. And dont say people shouldnt have children, its our God given right to have kids. Its just so sad to think that the government will see to everything else when it comes to employees and what needs to be paid, gee, the tax man will hunt you down in timbuktu to get his money, but no provision or no adequate provisions are made for those going on maternity leave.
Isnt this horrific! People always try and plan kids, if we cant save a measely R200 a month, how are we going to plan to have kids and save at least R500 a month to accomodate all that is necessary for a new born child. Its nappies, blankets, clothing, creams, powders etc. Think of all the things we need to survive and multiply that by two to just get a glimse of what is needed for a child. People are not having kids because they dont want to, but because its so expensive and our dear government is doing nothing to help the cause.
Deputy presidents can take their whole families on vacation using private jet's, here we cant have kids because the government wants to pay us half our money that we earn a month. But just not pay them their tax or UIF or anything that is due to them, and all hell will freeze over before you dont pay them. We have our lovely ex deputy president running around telling the world that showering after having sex with an HIV positive person will reduce his chances of contracting it, and he gets paid to be in office, BUT we cant get better maternity benefits. TRAGIC!!

I agree that it is absolutely pathetic that the government will only pay you 58% of your salary when you will be supporting two people now instead of one! But maybe the government is aware of that fact that there are already thousands of people in this country who can't afford to support their children, there is over population, there is lack of education about safe sex and pregnancy... Imagine giving all the people who earn R2000 a month, MORE than that while they on maternity leave, and then when they back at work earning less that when on leave, they now need to support them self AND their child for years and years to come! My stand on this is that if you can afford the incredible expense to raise a child from birth, through all their schooling and education, and into adulthood, you should certainly not have problems with the 3 months of 58% salary when on maternity leave. But all that aside - as a Christian who is actively persuing a relationship with God's and putting His plan as No. 1 on your agenda, He has promised that if you see to His Will first, He will look after you and provide you with everything you need.
Hi inspired dziner ;)
I dont quite understand? Im saying, if the government want to pay maternity benefits, why not pay you your full salary. Why only 58% of it. They shouldnt pay you more ofcourse, because when you return from maternity leave, the money you receive from your salary will be less and that would be quite silly, but what i am saying is that the government will pay for anything else but not for maternity benefits. and the sad thing is, yes there is overpopulation, but does that mean that all women need to suffer because of others cultures or just others ignorance to the consequences of having children. Here is another fact for you, my hubby's cousin just had her third baby and because she hasnt reached the age of 30, they will NOT sterilise her. Now this then tells me that the government has their facts or their policies or their acts totally confused.
I believe that if they are going to pay me 58% of my salary, that covers my car installment and my credit card and food for me for the month, what about the child. Thank heavens the boy will hopefully be sukkeling on me for those three months, else it would mean a tin of milk which costs about R60 a week!!

I don't think you were meant to be in I.T. Journalizing is definately your calling.

Thanks Wil ;)
let's think of the parent that has no one else to support her - and with that she has a house, car and bills to pay. before baby - she could just about cover everything with her salary - now that she is on maternity leave - what will she do - as suddenly she has to cut costs - to not only survive - but she has to feed baby as well....
It's ridiculous that your sister-in law only got R58 - she can't even afford that tin of milk .......
as for you being a journalist - I second that
Lots of love
