Opening of the Monkey Group

What a frustrating morning its been and its only 11am. On my way to work, I get stuck on the N2. My colleague calls to let me know there had been an accident and that she is forced to go right back onto the road she just came from. Its understandable that an accident would cause a traffic jam, its a norm when it rains in Cape Town. Somehow I do think that people should have to pass their drivers in the rain as well, cos the rain makes the Cape shiver!

So I take an alternate route, my poor leg is in agony because of clutch control, but to work I must get, just like every other person who is actually earning their salaries and not sitting and just getting it for doing nothing. Only to realise, the roads are closed because of its the opening of the monkeys (ie opening of parliament).Geez, sometimes I wish I could be the president, just get paid, have bodyguards, have a huge house, fancy car, wonderful wardrobe for me and my whole family and have the whole of Cape Town stand still so that I can make my way to parliament. Wouldnt we all just LOVE to be the president or any other parliamentary figure for that matter.

Finally after being on the N2 and branching off, i get to work, TWO hours later. On a normal day, it takes me about 30 min max to get to work. Today its taken me the equivalent of driving to work and home TWICE. Its also so pathetic that all the roads get cleared, lets analyse this. Thousands of motorists use the roads EVERYDAY, thousands at a time, all on their way to work. Today, a few politicians use the road, how many are there, lets say about 300 people gathering for parliament. Now lets weigh it up, who is more important, and who is going to be inconvenienced. Dont they know that we need to get to work so that they can have their flashy cars and flashy jobs and flashy jets that takes them shopping to Dubai. They dont work for their money, WE do, we the people putting in 40+ hours a week are the ones seeing to it that they get their luxuries. We pay tax to see to it that they can dress up for the opening of parliament as though going to the MET.

All the roads are closed so that they can get to parliament safely. Now I'm sure there are many people who know where they live, but you dont see any of those people stalking them, so what would make them special today that they cant have normal motorists around them, just like normal people. They are not movie stars, in fact, I think movie stars have gained more respect than any of them could ever, except a few ofcourse, like Madiba, Manual, De Klerk....the rest, HA HA HA! What a bunch of monkeys (like Will says). I mean, the one does funny things in the shower, the other eats fruit and ginger to cue aids, the other takes her family to shop in Dubai, and yet we have to stop a day of traffic to accommodate them so they can give us a pep talk!!!!!!!

My beautiful country, our beautiful country is in shambles, its crying out for help, help from our leaders, we need to pray for our leaders, so that they may understand that them being leaders shouldnt primarily benefit their needs, but the needs for the greater country, the greater country like you and me. If they can just understand that, then things will get better. I cant imagine myself wanting to be deemed so important as to stop traffic for myself. What happens in their everyday lives? What happens when they go to the shops, does the whole mall get emptied so that they can shop there for a few hours????????

Nee wat, las it!

The joys of Motherhood ;)

Its amazing how you just so happy to be woken at 4am in the morning. Geez, before, somebody would wake me and I'd be miserable, needless to say, dont wake a sleeping Sonja. Over the past two months I have come to appreciate children so much more. They dont bring joy to your house, they add, they add so much joy to your already joyful house. People often get that one wrong. They think kids fix situations, it doesnt work that way, they can only add to an already existing one or bring out something that was a bit hidden.....

Thomas Lietch was born on the 28th September at 18:01pm after 17 hours of excruciating pain. Was it worth it? Most definately. He is laying on my chest, bum on the desk and sleeping, so beautiful, so peaceful, so tiny, smelling of baby, and he is all mine. What a great gift God has given me. I can now understand why mothers do not want to go back to work. The older they get, the cuter they become. He has conversations, smiles, laugh's, makes funny little sounds, that must be his way of speaking. I just want to eat him up because he is so cute and gorgeous.

Its a real adjustment to the system having a baby, but such a good adjustment at that. He has gone on his first outting to Mykonos already. December he is going tent camping. Its just all so exciting. Before i know it, he will be jumping into my bed at 6 in the morning, "Mommy, i want to watch toons" hhheheheeheh. I cant believe I have a little boy, a little person that for the rest of his life will depend on me. It doesnt ever stop, we always need our parents for something, it doesnt all have to be materialistic. He is going to need me for something for the rest of his life. He must just not think Im gonna bail his little ass out of jail ;) No drinking and driving for him and thats final!

All I want to do is kiss him. He is mine, still something that needs to sink in, he is actually mine. After I was told that me having a baby isnt going to be as easy as other women, I actually had one. It was easy, but the birth, o my, that made up for the easy pregnancy 10 - 0!!! All worth it!! Will I do it again? Most probably and normal again, considering the epidural wore off, next time, I might as well not bother ;) Woulda been nice to have no pain, but anyway.......all over, ha ha

Im off to make myself a cup of tea, its 7:22 in the morning and Im wide awake, think Ill start working at 5 in the morning instead of 10. What do I do till 10 in the morning??

Motherhood, the essence of a woman.......or so i feel!

Thomas.....wow...

Politics, what else.......

What else can get my attention so profoundly..... Well, reading news24 now, i came across this article

http://www.news24.com/News24/South_Africa/Politics/0,,2-7-12_1973745,00.html

It speaks about apartheid being reversed. Now the thing is, the coloured man will always be the one out, it doesnt matter if the government is skipping them, when they get into the workplace, the same gets done, whether or not apartheid has been reversed or not. Its always been a white world, and a white world it will ALWAYS stay. That is actually something nobody can change, but maybe our attitudes towards ourselves and others will make it all a piece of cake.

I am sick of hearing about apartheid, it sickens me, the concept of a man that was so educated, sickens me. Now hearing it again sickens me, even though i havent been directly affected in the past, it was inevitable that i would be now...even though im a "new age" kid. Some things just dont change, and how can it, these thoughts or idiotic thoughts and ways have been passed from parents to child, and it just continues and continues, and the reason for that is that people tend to forget that they can actually use the brain they have received and think for themselves.....

Apartheid, what is that!!! Pathetic way of trying to divide the world.......think about it, maybe South Africa would be a first world country now if it was not divided and the MAJORITY was not left to be stupid!

Like i was told earlier, our lives on earth is temporary, we are geared for greater things.......remember that you do not work for no man on earth, whether he be white, pink, blue, green, purple, black, brown....you work for God and work like your rewards come from him and not from your bosses.

SHAME....

My letter to The Independent Democrats

Chatting to my buddy earlier brought me to write this letter. He seems to think i need to go into politics too. I tend to wonder how the people that are in politics actually got there, because they are actually doing nothing for us. So he says to me to research and see what i can find out, so i find the ID link and decide to write them this letter, ill keep you all posted on what the developments are, if any.......

Good Afternoon,

My name is Sonja Lietch, I’m 26 years old and I searched for your website online just to see how I can start helping out in our failing country. You might ask why I say “failing”, but the reality of it all is that our country seems to have forgotten that it has people it needs to protect, guide, support and actually care for. It infuriates me that people die on the roads everyday, but to no reaction from traffic officials or departments. Yesterday it was the final straw for me. My husband’s colleague was killed in an accident on the west coast road, a GOLDEN ARROW bus ran the RED robot and smashed into her STATIONARY car, killing her, leaving behind her husband and 9 MONTH old baby. Now isn’t this enough to get your blood in a knot, because it definitely gets mine into a knot!

A buddy of mine’s mother was killed on sir Lowry’s pass a month ago by a speeding polo loosing control and also killing her on impact. These are just examples of things that happen everyday. A man died after a stone was thrown to his windscreen. He shielded his fiancé and had suffered the greatest penalty, death. Now all these things I’m sure you are aware of, there was actually no need for me to mention this, but it was just to refresh your memory to things happening daily around our country. Why is it that we cant enter our homes safely, why is it that cops get to drive over the speed limit, throw their cigarette butts out the window while they driving?? Why is it that our officials or the people that are supposed to look after us are just taking advantage of every policy, road sign or any other law enforced? What then makes them think that we, the PUBLIC need to be any different, isn’t it said that we need to follow by example? What a pathetic example is being set. How about the traffic car that doesn’t wait its turn on an off ramp and barges in like every other person does to avoid the queue? Why it that our officials think nothing of any policies that is put in place and yet thinks that we need to obey them?

Now I know you are not the party in power, but the difference needs to be made by somebody. It shocks me that people still vote for words, I don’t vote for words, I vote for actions, and then the parties want to tell us to have our say and vote, what is there to vote for?? Nobody is proving adequate to run our country, we need actions, and we need better statistics. We need people to care, to actually care for our people. Things have become so bad in this country that hospitals are run like companies now, the more money you have, the better treatment you get. What happened to helping the poor, the underprivileged? So just because they can’t drive a fancy car, live in a fancy house, they wont get fancy medical treatment. Tygerberg hospital is a real shocker to enter, the people have no means of speaking amongst themselves, how is it then possible they can be friendly or caring to their patients. A friend of mine’s mother is a nurse, and at the private hospitals, as soon as somebody wets their bed, they get cleaned up, clean bedding, clean clothes, and clean everything. The same thing happened at Tygerberg hospital and the rest of the nursing staff on duty that night told her she is crazy to be cleaning a person that was reeking of stale urine and faeces. This leaves the question, what are we paying taxes for, what are people getting paid to do in public office?

SARS wants to fine you R300 when your tax is late, but the government still lets you drive on broken roads, with inadequate lighting or painted lines. If our government don’t start pulling up their socks then nobody will vote, the numbers will get less, because we are all starting to ask the question “Why care about a government that doesn’t care about you”. And that is actually the honest truth, they don’t care, if they did, we wouldn’t be scared to enter our homes, or be scared to drive the CORRECT speed limit without being flashed or almost forced of the road. We wouldn’t be scared to drive the N2 safely with no stones on our windscreens. I wouldn’t be scared to visit my father that lives five minutes away from me or enter my house alone when my husband is on shift. I just wouldn’t be scared.

Like I said before, how is this county possibly thinking of protecting all the foreigners in 2010 when they cant even protect us! I would not promote SA to anybody, because their safety is less than NOT guaranteed, less! I won’t advise anybody to come here in 2010; we have no proof of the security being adequate.

I’m done talking, all I do is talk, and I’m actually starting to sound like a politician! All I do is blog, and blog, and blog about everything that is happening in SA but I hope for your sake, mine and our country that you would take heed to my call and do something, just do something!

World Cup 2010 - South Africa

All Ive been reading on the past three days is the Zinedine Zidane story, mainly because they are the team i rooted for in the final and also because I personally feel that Zizou is hotter than anything describable, he is just so yummy. But before I get carried away about him, which im certainly sure i would be able to do, lets chat a bit about the world cup we are to host in 2010.

Why i want to speak about this you might ask, well, i guess its a mixture of soccer hype we have all been on the past month and a bit about the article i just read on news24. Below is the link, go have a read and then comment freely as im about to do now anyway.....

http://www.fin24.co.za/articles/default/display_article.aspx?Nav=ns&ArticleID=1518-1786_1966502

Quite an eye opener, a sad one actually. SA is the number one country british are warned against touring. Sad really, but this is actually a true reality. SA has a whole group of people living in it that just doesnt care about anybody, certainly not about themselves and while this article states that they are not trying to discourage british from touring SA, I AM! I am discouraging any british or any other tourist from coming here. Call me a pathetic SA born female, but my thoughts is, if this country cant keep its people safe, HOW the hell is it going to keep others safe. I wouldnt go to a country that statistically has the highest crime rate, that wouldnt be a holiday for me at all.

Last night Deborah had safety and security persons on Third Degree, asking them what they are doing about our safety in this country. The answer is that they are actually doing absolutely F-ALL (no swearing now Sonja, kids could be reading this too). It just infuriates me that our government is doing nothing to secure our safety, its a shock and as much as we moan and groan and as much as we can think of many ways to help secure our country, it doesnt matter if the people with the money and "power" just dont care. And im quite sick of being told that the people need to put heads together and the people need to find ways of keeping themselves safe, and the people need to promote safety and security. If that be the case, then i dont want a government, i dont want somebody running the country, if i am to do everything for myself. Then i dont want to be paying taxes and i dont want to be earning a shitty salary, because surely their salaries all combined can open a whole new blady company, probably be able to employ thousands of people. This is shocking, and its bad, not the first time SA is put in the limelight about their crime, but clearly not even that bothers those who are supposed to use whatever measures to PROTECT us.

Like my buddy said, people dont care because the government doesnt care about them. And that is so true, people dont care because the government dont care about them, you find radio stations (Heart 104.9, Cape Town's soul) trying to raise funds to feed hungry children for a year. You will find shops (Pick n Pay) having drives to collect blankets. You will find youth groups (Youth on Fire) raising funds to buy blankets for the homeless. You will find all these people doing things, where does the government come into play, where are their donations and contributions, we want to see it, not just hear about it. Flora margerine had a drive for the comrades.

Pathetic that we have to pay taxes and we have to drive on broken roads, be afraid of driving with a door unlocked, be careful when entering our homes, be cautious about people walking behind us, be afraid of going visiting at night, might just get abducted, be afraid of using our cellphones in public, might just be ripped right out of our hands, be afraid to wear a tight jeans of fear that there will be some sicko seeing it as an invitation, be afraid of prisoners being freed out of prison and raping, killing, stealing again.

WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH SA!!

How are we to host the world cup in 2010 if we cant even be safe ourselves? Its like a person being an alcoholic having a child, he/she cant even look after him/herself, but has a child. Now SA is the alcoholic and we are the children. Shocking.......

Absolutely Pathetic!! I cant be proud of a country that lets me down all thet time, i just cant.......

Ag, just some bashing and thoughts again

So Im at a finance meeting last night and Father fetches the paper after we were sitting and discussing accidents on the roads lately. The headline "Two more highway stonings". What an interesting headline, lets see what it says. So i read the article, and boy did it get my blood in knots, not boiling, in knots. The audacity of the people we have somehow put in power of our province, shocking, i dont know if we should blame ourselves more or them more. Its shocking to think that the MEC of Community Safety can say, and i quote "A meeting took place. Who was there is not important. What is important is that a meeting was held". Now you tell me, what the hell??????? What a big joke, how can it not be important to know who was there, the right people have to be at a meeting to make a meeting somewhat of a success. Who is this little idiot trying to fool! This infuriates me. That was the start of me writing this blog. Clearly our safety on the roads are of no concern to these people. Over the past week there have been more than 10 deaths on the road, one being my friends mother that was killed on sir lowry's pass last wednesday thanks to a guy in a polo racing down the pass, losing control of his car and hitting right into my friends mother. She was killed on the spot, her other daughter's hip was broken, the aunty (the mother's sister) was in critical condition and her daughter was also taken to hospital. I ask myself, where are the patrolling cars that are needed to maintain the speed limits on roads. What is the use of having camera's on the roads when everybody will speed after that camera because they all have found out on some or other site where all the camera's are. Lets face it, SPEED CAMERA'S DO NOT SAVE LIVES. We need cops patrolling the streets and making sure that things like this dont happen.

How many people must die on the N2 because of the stoning before something is done. Why cant a police or traffic official be driving over every bridge on the N2 so as to prevent these things from happening. And dont tell me there are not enough officials, because there are. This morning I'm driving behind a metro police car, there are three of them in the car. The driver is chatting away, his hands waving all around in the car, the way he is explaining his little story, driving more than 80km in a 60 zone, ofcourse i know this because i was driving to keep up with him, just to prove once again, that not even the police or traffic officials obey the roads. Now you ask, how the hell will the public obey it if the people that are supposed to UPHOLD the law dont even remotely try to. He then turns off at the Caltex garage turnoff after flicking his cigarette butt out the window. Wasnt that the cause of fires a few months back??? Explain that philosophy to me, or that pathetic mentality. Oh and lets not forget him waving at me when i gave him the look of death as i passed him to follow on straight on the road.

Another shocking bit of the article was that some Cape Town officials were not even informed of the meeting, then why was a meeting held when the correct people were not even informed. I mean, this is not a little company and 10 employees that are being dealt with. This is a county where millions of people live, where we all are eagerly anticipating safety, safety all round, not only on our roads, in our neighbourhoods, even just walking to the shop. What are all the MEC's and MP's doing whole day, sitting on their arse's and adding kg's to their asses? Why is it so difficult for them to get things done, and please dont say its money, cos considering what they drive and where they live, it cant possibly be money. Its pathetic. A politician should be compared to a doctor, they should only be doctors or politicians if their main concern is their patients or citizens and not their pockets. I have no sympathy for politicians and my respect is fading day by day. And that would explain why the police are so depressed half of the time, they are not being seen to, their salaries are pathetic, working conditions shouldnt even be mentioned, but everyday they get up and go to work with the thought that it could be the last time they see their families. Last night driving home, i was listening to the news and people are asking for the death penalty to be reinstated. Well well well, some other idiot said that the problem isnt in the punishment but in the fact that the criminals have no fear of being caught!!! So then whey not bring the death penalty back, either way, nothing will change in their attitudes, or will it? Isnt it something to consider for the good of our country?????? Jesus died for our sins and he wasnt even guilty of a crime. These prisoners take innocent people's lives and feel absolutely no remorse. What to do?

Everyday i read a bit more about the crime and the unsafety, i read it, i see it on the news, when will all this just get better, when will we be able to walk to our cars without looking over our shoulders, when will we be able to lock our doors in the morning without turning to see if anybody is watching, when will the paranoia go away? When will the people we need to make things better for us step up to the plate. They should stop blaming whatever they do blame and use what they have and build it from there.

They are pathetic if you ask me, pathetic!

As I just read on my friends blog "BUT.......while we get more angry at people and the world for this, maybe we should turn our focus unto Jesus, let Him deal with it, not us, because we will just ruin each other............." Maybe we should just heed her advice...

Sad..

Some more cuteness

Monday 12 June, nerves a bit shattered, i stroll into the doctors office. Im about 23 weeks and 4 days pregnant and i know this is going to be a detailed scan. The doc will be checking everything he needs to for the 24 weeks. A bit nervous, Kelly (my 17 yr old sister in law) is sitting next to me and Brandon (my gorgeous hubby) is standing behind me. The doc steps in and does the norm, asks how im doing and then checks to see how far i am and just arb little things. All i really want is to get on with it, i want to see my baby. I only get to see him every 4 weeks, so when the doctor says "Lets go have a look", the excitement overwhelms me. So i lay on the bed and he puts this cold jelly on my belly, exactly where the baby is laying. How do i know this?? I read about it all the time, and i feel him kicking me in my navel and around my navel continuously.

And there he is, my little boy. WOW, what a fantastic feeling. The doctor then checks everything he needs to check. I glance at my hubby, the amazement and joy in his eyes, makes me feel all emotional, as if i havent been for weeks now. Kelly is watching the screen, proud aunty and im just feeling all warm inside. Im going to be a mommy soon, how exciting. Well, now im so excited, i cant wait for September to come so i can go on maternity leave and just have baby on the brain, not that i dont already ;)

Doc checks the size of his head, this should coincide with how far i am in the pregnancy, the reading says 24.1mm, so its about 4 days out, that isnt bad at all. He is so tiny, doc checks his heart and his legs and feet and his hands and his little face, o my word, he is beautiful already, he is all mine. God has graced me with such a wonderful gift, its really overwhelming, think only other mommies will understand the feeling, and mommies like me who thought id be waiting forever....... He weighs 622g, just 22g more than the estimate on my chart on the fridge. The doc says it is very good, he is growing perfectly. My little angel. I cant help but just want to say, Thank you God, thank you. You know that feeling when you so badly wanted something and your mother surprises you when you feel that its not going to happen, now that feeling i have at the moment, that feeling that makes me just want to say Thank you.......
The doc is waving.......i look on the screen, his little hand is on the screen, so the doc is waving hello at him, cute man! I take it, he just wants to get over and done with this, we are invading his sleeping time.

Kelly and I go shopping, so i get him his first three pairs of socks, some vests and a grower. First clothes i buy him. Grandma Nicky and Grandma Virginia has been buying him so much that i dont even have to buy him anything, but i just had to buy him something for being such a good child. Already rewarding him, and he isnt even here yet. I take it its just natural instinct.

What an amazing feeling to feel this little person kicking inside of me like he is, and oh, lets not forget, he is a he, triple checked ;) just got to make sure the blue clothes are not going to be a waste. He is so loved, his grandma told me monday, she doesnt care about anything or anyone, he is already hers, she already loves him forever, and that is so true, i just love him forever already.....

Mommy......
